The Day Eddie Met the Author Spelling Assignment
Name: __________________________
At the beginning of each 6-day cycle, your child will have a spelling pretest. Based upon the pretest, one
of two lists will be given to your child to study for the week. At the end of the 6-day cycle, your child
will take a test on this list. The weekly list assigned to your son/daughter can be found in his/her
spelling pretest book. The list can be found under the title “Words to Study”. These are the words to
be used when completing the spelling assignments each week.
This week’s spelling skill deals with adding the suffixes –ed and-ing to base words. Three rules
are being examined:
1.
Just add the suffix (-ed, -ing) to the base word.
2. Drop the silent –e before adding the suffix (-ed, -ing).
3. Words with short vowel sounds double the final consonant before adding the suffix (-ed, ing).
Assignment One: Write each word three times. Circle words that just add the suffix (-ed, -ing) blue.
Circle the words that drop the silent –e before adding the suffix (-ed, -ing) green. Circle the words that
double the final consonant before adding the suffix (-ed, -ing) red.
